Novena to St. Rita of Cascia
Day 4 Glorious St. Rita, I desire to honor you with a special devotion. I choose you, as my spiritual mother and protectress. To you I entrust my soul and my body, all my spiritual and temporal interests, as well as those of my family. To you I consecrate my mind, that in all things it may be enlightened by faith; my heart, that you may keep it pure and fill it with love for Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and yourself; my will, that like yours, it may always be one with the will of God. Good St. Rita, filled with love for those who invoke you and with compassion for those who suffer, I confidently place before you my earnest petitions for troubled marriages, strained marriages, marriages of different faiths and continued strength for all marriages.

Novena Prayer

St. Rita, God gave you to us as an example of charity and patience, and offered you a share in the Passion of his Son. I thank him for the many blessings he bestowed upon you during your lifetime, especially during your unhappy marriage and during the difficulty you suffered in the convent.
May your example encourage me to carry my own cross patiently and to live a life that is holier. By serving God as you did, may I please him with my faith and my actions.May your prayers help me to live in fidelity to my calling as you did and bring me to the deeper love of God and my neighbor until I reach eternal life in heaven. Amen.

Heavenly Father, you prepared the heart of St. Rita to be a fitting dwelling place for your Holy Spirit. By her prayers for us, may our soul become a more worthy temple of your glory. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever. Amen.

Day 2
St. Rita, full of love for God and mankind, and of compassion for sinners, I consecrate myself entirely to you. I entrust to you the salvation of my soul. May my heart be ever united with yours, so that I may hate sin, love God and my neighbor, and reach eternal life together with those whom I love.Dearest St. Rita, if what I ask for should not be according to God's will, pray that I may receive that which will be of greater benefit to my soul. May I experience the kindness of your motherly heart and the power of your intercession with Jesus during life and at the hour of my death. Amen.

OGod, in your infinite tenderness you have been pleased to regard the prayer of your servant Rita, and to grant to her supplication that which is impossible to human foresight, skill, and effort, as rewards for her compassionate love and firm reliance on your promises. Have pity on us in times of adversities and comfort us in our calamities, that even the unbelievers may know that you are the recompense of the humble, the defense of the helpless, and the strength of those who trust in you. Grant this in the Name of Jesus the Lord. Amen.

Novena for Marriages

Thank you all so much for your participation in our last Novena!  It was a great success and a wonderful spiritual movement for our group.  Praying Novenas is the spiritual direction our group has moved into.  As always caring for the spiritual development of our children is our first vocation, but living this example for them serves as a teaching method.

I'll update you all soon on any progress from our first Novena.  I'm hopeful for some new babies on the way. (Not my own yet mind you!)

As I did last time I will post a daily audio of the Novena for you to follow along and pray with me.  Due to poor planning however on my part, I have not yet made those. (For those of you who'd like to print the Novena the image below contains a link to the Novena.)  Go figure right life got in the way?! We are actually beginning the prayer today in honor of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.  The Litany at the end of this Novena mentions the Sacred Heart so we found it appropriate to start today. 

There were a few patrons we could have selected for this, however St. Rita seemed to speak to me.  One of the causes we are praying for are very broken marriages.  St. Rita of Cascia is a patron of Battered Wives, Widowed and the Hopeless.  I'm sure marriages in sever distress can seem hopeless.  While praying this please think of Severely Broken Marriages, Stressed Marriages, Marriages of Different Faiths, and Healthy Marriages.  Since all marriages are important to pray for and strengthen we're including all married people.

Liturgy of the Hours

Since my time of solitude and silence a few weeks ago, I made a commitment to pray Morning and Evening Prayer, in addition to our Rosary and Novenas.  I am learning about the history of the Hours, and its purpose and importance in the life of the Church and individual Catholics.  In my research, I came across Daria Sockey's website, Coffee and Canticles, which offers a great deal of useful information.  As we continue to read and discuss The Holy Way: Practices for a Simple Life by Paula Huston, I will also share what I have learned about the Liturgy of the Hours.
